Lexus has announced a slew of updates and enhancements for its 2022 Lexus ES, which is the Japanese automaker’s popular mid-size, five-passenger, sedan. This is an expected mid-cycle refresh of the seventh-generation ES that was launched for the 2019 model year.
The exterior of the Lexus ES boasts a re-sculpted front fascia with more angular headlights, which now use dynamic LEDs for high and low beams. The Lexus trademark spindle grille is enhanced with a new mesh pattern and there are new wheel designs for all trim levels (e.g., the enthusiast-tuned F Sport models get new 19-inch split-five-spoke alloy wheels with a black finish).
Lexus made significant changes to the way passengers interact with the vehicle’s technology. Most important is that both the standard (8.0-inch) and available (12.3-inch) infotainment screens have been have been moved closer to the occupants for new touch-screen functionality. Complementing the new interface is a more streamlined instrument panel design to better integrate the new screens.
In terms of safety, the 2022 Lexus ES has been upgraded to Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 (LSS+ 2.5) as standard equipment across all models. A new update includes Intersection Turning Assist, which helps the driver to see an oncoming vehicle when making a left across an intersection (or a pedestrian when making left- or right-hand turns). A new feature, called Emergency Steering Assist (ESA), improves vehicle stability when the driver is making emergency maneuvers.
Lexus also made changes to the ES rear suspension, with new bracing to improve torsional rigidity, handling stability, and ride comfort. The 2022 Lexus ES is also fitted with a new brake pedal that is larger to improve foot stabily and driver confidence (the brake boost has also been enhanced to improve feel and response).
Lastly, the Lexus ES is getting new exterior colors (Eminent White Pearl, Obsidian, Caviar, Matador Red Mica, Moonbeam Beige Metallic, Sunlit Green, and Nightfall Mica), new interior pallets, and new interior trim choices.
2022 Lexus ES pricing is expected to be announced closer to the vehicle’s arrival in showrooms this Fall.
