Dodge has announced that its family-hauling hotrod, the 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat, has sold out – just three months after opening the vehicle’s order books.

The most powerful three-row SUV ever offered for sale from an automaker boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Hellcat V8 engine (710 hp/645 lb-ft of torque) mated to the company’s TorqueFlite 8HP95 8-speed automatic transmission.

With standard all-wheel drive, the Durango SRT Hellcat delivers a 0-60 mph sprint in just 3.5 seconds towards a quarter-mile elapsed time of 11.5 seconds – blistering fast for a 3-row vehicle capable of towing an impressive 8,700 pounds. Let’s not forget that the Durango SRT Hellcat is capable of taking its seven passengers up to 180 mph – this big Dodge is as fast as a Cessna 172, and it holds nearly twice as many people.

According to the automaker’s press release, all 2,000 units of the high-performance SUV have been spoken for. But at the same time, the company hinted that you may want to reach out to your local dealer to see if its allocation is gone – all production has been reserved, but not every unit may be assigned to customers.

“The 2021 Durango Hellcat is only a single model-year run, ensuring that it will be a very special, sought-after performance SUV for years to come,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand and Interim Chrysler Brand Chief Executive Officer – Stellantis. “Based on anticipated demand, all dealer allocations have already been reserved, but there is still some time to secure an unsold dealer order.”

While the news may disappoint some enthusiasts who have yet to reserve a VIN in their name, it’s confirmation that consumers still have an insatiable appetite for high-horsepower gasoline-fed muscle cars – even with $80,000 price tags – despite the strong push for hybrids and electrification.
